I’m still trying to figure out how I’ve lived in Colorado for 12 years and only just learned about Snow Cream this week. What gives? Snow Cream is pretty much the coolest, cleverest concoction in the world. It’s ice cream made in minutes using snow, sugar and a bit of real cream. Splendidly smooth and totally delicious.
Though our winter has been mild, the Colorado clouds hovered big time on Monday and offered up an opportunity to try our hand at making snow cream. Since every one of my kids is a die-hard Orange Creamscicle fanatic, we flavored our snow cream to taste just like an orange creamscicle. It was so easy and turned out so good that I had to pry the spoons from my children’s greedy little hands. They licked their bowls clean, then begged us to make more. I was more than willing to oblige. After all, we had a whole backyard of snow, just waiting to be turned into ice cream.

Orange Creamscicle Snow Cream
Ingredients
- 6-8 cups of snow
- 8 ounces whipping cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon orange extract
- 1/4 teaspoon orange gel coloring
Directions
Scoop clean, fresh-fallen snow into a large bowl (don’t panic about making the measurements exact and don’t pack the snow. You want it to be light and fluffy.) Stir together the whipping cream, sugar, orange extract, and orange food coloring until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the cream mixture over the snow. Using a spoon, stir the mixture together until it’s creamy. Add snow by the scoopfuls, if needed, until the mixture resembles ice cream. Scoop into bowls & serve immediately.
Turn Your Snow Cream into a Sundae: For our Orange Creamscicle Snow Cream Sundaes (pictures above), we spread a dollop of whipped cream on top of the snow cream, added sprinkles, and topped it all off with an orange gumdrop. So easy and so cute!
