A Star Is Born | All Kids' Room Crafts

Total Time Needed: 1-2 Hours

Give your child the Hollywood treatment with a sparkling corkboard that provides plenty of room for notes and mementos.

Materials

  • 3 yards of 1 1/2-inch-wide red velvet ribbon
  • Tacky or fabric glue
  • 2 (12-inch-square) cork tiles
  • 12-inch length of gold fringe
  • Pen
  • Paintbrush
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Gold glitter acrylic paint
  • 1 1/2 yards of 14-inch-wide red velvet ribbon
  • Red dimensional fabric paint
  • Over-the-door hanger
  • Paper clips and thumbtacks

Instructions

  1. Cut three 30-inch streamers from the 1 1/2-inch-wide ribbon (the remaining length will be used for the hanger).
  2. Apply beads of glue all over a cork tile, including along its edges. Arrange the streamers, plush-side-up, along the bottom. Lay the top edge of the fringe over the ribbons and press it all into place. At the top of the tile, press on the ends of the remaining ribbon to form a hanger, as shown.
  3. Apply beads of glue all over the second tile, align it with the first, and press it into place, sandwiching the fringe and ribbon. Set heavy books on top of the tiles and let the glue dry for at least 15 minutes.
  4. On the top tile, draw a star or trace our template. Paint the background of the tile black, including the top and side edges, then let it dry. Paint the star gold and let it dry.
  5. Cut four 12-inch lengths from the 1/4-inch-wide ribbon. Apply glue along the edges of the tile and press the ribbons into place. 6Use the dimensional paint to write your child's name in the center of the star. Hang the finished board with the door hanger. Attach photos and other mementos to the ribbons with paper clips, and pin items to the corkboard with thumbtacks.
