Jasmine's Dragonfly Chip Clips

Jasmine's Dragonfly Chip Clips

Total Time 30 minutes or less Ages school-age

You don't have to be a kid to love toys. Princess Jasmine's father, the Sultan of Agrabah, for example, has a whole room filled with gadgets and playthings. And when Jasmine presented him with a windup dragonfly to add to his collection, the Sultan was delighted. These colorful dragonfly clips make a great gift for dazzling Dad on his special day. Made from pinch-style clothespins, they come in handy for resealing bags of his favorite munchies.

What you'll need

  • Pinch-style wooden clothespins
  • Wooden craft spoons
  • Craft paints and paintbrush
  • Hot glue
  • Black pony beads

How to make it

1. For each dragonfly clip, remove the springs from 2 clothespins and let your child paint all the pieces, choosing a color she likes for the insect's body. Use another color to paint 2 craft spoons to use for wings. Let the paint dry.

Step 2

2. Crisscross the craft spoons and glue them together, as shown, to create a double set of wings.

Step 3

3. Reassemble the clothespins. Pinch open one of the clothespins and glue the wings to the inside, as shown.

4. For eyes, glue a pair of black pony beads to the end of the clothespin (above the wings).

Step 5

5. Now glue the dragonfly onto the second clothespin so that the end of the tail lines up with the notch where the spring attaches.
