Baseball Pretzel Bats and Baseball Cake Pops!

Baseball Pretzel Bats and Baseball Cake Pops!

By Macki West

The World Series is almost here which is a huge deal for my Italian, New Yorker husband. He is a big Yankee fan and was a bit devastated with his team’s last two losses and Jeter’s broken ankle, so I decided a little baseball fun was in order. I made some great game day treats that are so easy and can be customized to your team colors. After he saw my efforts to cheer him up, he told me he had a Yankee epiphany that they were going to come back for the win! I can’t help but be charmed by my baseball-loving man. Find out how to make these fun baseballs and bats after the jump…

Pretzel Bats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 12 pretzel rods
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • sprinkles in your team’s color
  • wax paper

Directions

Place a glass bowl on top of a pot of simmering water, making sure the bowl does not touch the water (or use a double boiler). Pour in the chocolate chips and stir frequently until almost melted, then add the oil and stir until smooth and fully melted. Dip each pretzel into the chocolate and use the spoon to cover. Tap off any excess chocolate and cover with sprinkles in your team’s colors. Place on wax paper to dry for about 3 hours.

Baseball Cake Pops

Ingredients

  • One batch of cake, using either your favorite recipe or a mix
  • White chocolate or vanilla frosting
  • Red gel icing

Directions

I bought a pan like this Bake Pop pan to make cake pops. I normally make cake from scratch, but decided to follow some tips by using a boxed mix (with no hydrogenated oils). I made the boxed chocolate cake with 1/2 the amount of oil called for, 3 eggs, 1/2 the amount of water and swapped it with milk, then added a package of chocolate pudding. Then I sprayed the inside of the pans with baking spray (with flour) and the outside of the top pan with regular cooking spray. I cooked them at 350 for 20 minutes, but I have a feeling they could have come out at 18 minutes. My original plan was to melt white chocolate, but my chocolate must have been old because it curdled, so I used frosting and piped on a string of red to make it look like a baseball.
