Total Time 30 minutes or less Ages school-age

On their way to finding Nemo, Marlin and Dory encounter a huge school (aptly named a smack) of jellyfish, and they have to bounce off the tops to avoid being stung by the dangling tentacles. While the colorful trailing ribbons on these paper jellyfish won't sting you, they certainly will add a jazzy touch to your child's birthday celebration. They also make nice take-home favors when the party's over.

What you'll need

  • Template for Jazzy Jellyfish
  • Scissors
  • Craft paper
  • Glitter glue
  • Curling ribbon
  • Monofilament (for hanging the jellyfish)
  • Glue dots

How to make it

1. Print out the template and use it to cut a pair of matching shapes for each jellyfish you'd like to make.

2. Have your child decorate the paper shapes with glitter glue.

3. While the glue dries, cut several long lengths of curling ribbon for each jellyfish. Gather them in a bunch and knot them together at one end. Then curl the ribbons.

4. Turn one of the paper shapes over so the non glittery side faces up and glue the ribbon tentacles to the bottom edge, as shown. If you plan on hanging the jellyfish, knot one end of a length of monofilament and glue it to the top of the paper.

5. Glue the matching paper shape (glittery side up) on top of the first one, sandwiching the ribbon tops and the knotted monofilament between them, and the jellyfish is ready to hang.
