This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by Ritavaz01: I made this cake for my little girls' joint birthday party using popular store-bought items. Everyone was amazed that it was an ice cream cake.
What you'll need
- 4 (1.76 qtz) containers of your favorite, good quality, ice cream
- 3 family size pound cake (chocolate, vanilla or marble) from the freezer section
- 3 containers of your favorite ready made white icing
- Blue and green food colors
- 4 packs candy melts (each different color)
- 1 packet of ocean themed gummies
- 1 cup (more or less) of crushed graham crackers or vanilla sandwich cookies to sprinkle anywhere you want "sand" on the cake
How to make it
- Make cake decorations a few days before party by melting candy melts per package instructions. Pour melted candy into corner of a freezer bag. Snip off a tiny piece of the corner to allow the chocolate to flow out of bag. Pour into shell candy molds. Let set in fridge about 5-7 minutes. On wax paper, quickly free-hand draw coral and/or sea weed. Let set in fridge a few minutes. Keep all candies in fridge or cool dry area until ready to use.
- Night before party, line 2 (6") cake pans & 2 (9") cake pans with plastic wrap, allowing extra to hang off sides. Lay thin slices of pound cake on bottom and sides of pans. Working quickly, spread softened ice cream into prepared pans making sure that ice cream is firmly packed and leveled. Cut thick slices of cake (equal thickness) press onto ice cream. Cover cakes with the excess wrap. Stack cakes on top of each other. Put in freezer over night.
- In the morning, unwrap cakes and put back in freezer. Put icing in a bowl and stir to soften. Use food color to achieve desired icing color. On cake stand, quickly stack cakes using little icing in between layers. Spread most icing on top and sides of cake. Freeze constructed cake 30 min. before decorating with pre-made candies, gummies and "sand". Top with favorite character or more shells. Keep frozen until ready to present and eat. Enjoy!
