This easy appetizer of savory bacon and crisp water chestnuts gets a big flavor boost from homemade sweet and sour sauce.

What you'll need
- 24 whole canned water chestnuts
- 12 strips thick-sliced applewood bacon, cut in half
- 24 toothpicks
- Sweet and sour sauce:
- 2 ounces tomato sauce
- 2 ounces rice wine vinegar
- 2 ounces orange juice
- 2 ounces soy sauce
- 2 ounces vegetable stock
Notes:
Servings: 6-12
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Rinse chestnuts in warm running water and drain. Wrap a piece of cut bacon around the water chestnut and secure with a toothpick.
- Place the water chestnuts on a rack in a shallow pan. Bake for 30 minutes, turning them over once). Makes 24 appetizers.
- In a saucepan combine tomato sauce, vinegar, orange juice, soy sauce and vegetable stock. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Stir occasionally. Let chill and serve with bacon wrapped water chestnuts.
