Homemade Nativity Scene: The Stable

Homemade Nativity Scene: The Stable

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

This simple stable with its nifty interchangeable star and angel provides the Nativity setting, as well as a handy storage box.

Materials

  • Cardboard shoe box or photo box with a lid (ours is 11 ½ by 4 ½ by 7 ¾ inches)
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • Ruler
  • Paper clip
  • About 26 feet of tan paper twist, depending on box size (available at craft stores)
  • Tacky glue or 3 to 4 .29-ounce glue sticks
  • 3-inch square of card stock
  • About 9 sparkly gold pipe cleaners

Instructions

1. To make the roof, cut apart the edge of the lid at each corner.

2. Cut off one long edge. Flatten both short edges and place masking tape as shown and on the reverse side. Cut in at the center of the remaining long edge. Use a ruler or table edge to bend the lid in half at that point. Tape together the halves of the edge to hold the fold in place. Tape a paper clip to the roof as shown. This will hold the star or angel.

3. Cut the paper twist into lengths to cover the box and roof. Untwist and flatten each. Glue the strips to the box inside and out. Cover the roof, letting the strips extend over the edges.

4. Attach the roof with masking tape, allowing an overhang in front.

5. Cut a 3-inch star from card stock. Wrap the star with gold pipe cleaners. To finish, twist the end of the last pipe cleaner into a hook at the back as shown. Hang the star from the paper clip on the stable roof.
