Soy-Sesame Dipping Sauce Recipe

Soy-Sesame Dipping Sauce

Dumplings - whether shrimp, pork, or vegetarian - are even more delectable when taken for a dip, and this simple, sweet sauce provides the perfect pairing. Kids can help whip it up while the dumplings cook, or it can be made ahead and refrigerated. Just don't add the scallions until you're ready to serve it.

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic clove, halved
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar (unseasoned)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced scallions

Instructions

  1. Rub the cut garlic over the sides and bottom of a small bowl. Place the garlic halves in the bowl, then add the vinegar and sugar.
  2. Stir the mixture until the sugar is dissolved, then whisk in the soy sauce, water, and sesame oil. Remove the garlic and pour the sauce into a small serving bowl (or 4 individual ones). Sprinkle with the scallions. Makes 1/2 cup.
