Letter Craft: Letter-Perfect Corkboard

Letter-Perfect Corkboard

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Jazz up a bedroom wall with this supersize message and photo center.

Materials

  • 20- by 30-inch sheet of 3/8-inch-thick foam core
  • Pencil
  • Craft knife
  • 24- by 48-inch roll of cork (available at craft or office supply stores)
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided foam tape (our letter required 5 yards)
  • Acrylic paint and paintbrush
  • Picture-hanging hardware, such as screws or adhesive picture-hanging strips

Instructions

  1. Draw your child's initial onto the foam core, making sure the letter is no wider than 20 inches (ours is 20 by 24). Cut it out with a craft knife (a parent's job).
  2. Unroll the cork and place the foam letter face-down on top of it. Trace the letter onto the cork, then use scissors to cut it out.
  3. Lay the foam letter right-side up and cover the surface with strips of double-sided foam tape. Carefully lay the cork letter on top of the foam, then smooth over the surface to stick the layers together (if the cork overlaps the foam in some places, or vice versa, trim the edges).
  4. Dress up the board by painting on a design. Attach your corkboard to a wall with picture-hanging hardware or adhesive strips.
