Baby Shower Cake Recipe

A building block cake perfect for a baby shower.

Ingredients

  • 3 frozen pound cakes or three packages of your favorite cake mix prepared in 8 1/2- x 4 1/2-inch loaf pans
  • Sharp bread knife
  • 1 tube prepared white icing with screw-on plastic star tip
  • 2 16-oz. containers white, vanilla, or cream-cheese icing
  • 1 16-oz. container pink strawberry icing
  • 1 small bottle each of blue and yellow food coloring
  • Glass filled with hot water
  • Clean dish towel

Instructions

To color the blue and yellow frosting, place a generous amount of the white frosting in a mixing bowl. Start the mixer and add the food coloring one drop at a time. Allow each drop to blend in completely before adding the next.

When the frosting reaches the color you are after, scoop it back into the container it came in. Refrigerate the frosting until you are ready to use it.

If you are using a frozen cake, do not defrost it before cutting. If you are using a mix cake, pop it into the freezer until it is firm.

Using the ruler, cut two three-inch-long slices of cake and stack them. Trim the edges as best you can to create a cube that's three-inches on each side.

Repeat this to create three baby blocks.

Fill the glass with hot water, dip the knife in the water long enough to heat it. DRY it thoroughly and begin frosting your cubes. Each cube should be a different color.

Using the tube of white icing with the star tip, draw a letter, number, or design on one side of each block cake. Enjoy.
