Quick and Rich Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Sauce

Quick and Rich Dark Chocolate Ice Cream Sauce

By Kelsey Banfield

It is getting a little cooler outside which means ice cream “season” is almost over. Of course, we eat ice cream year-round in the Northeast, but I still consider it a seasonal item since I put away my ice cream maker right about now. To celebrate our latest (and least, for a while) homemade ice cream batch this month I made this quick dark chocolate ice cream sauce on the stovetop. It took just minutes and tasted amazing drizzled over our dishes of super vanilla ice cream. I only made enough for about three or four bowls of ice cream, but you could easily double or triple the recipe if you want more!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips or dark chocolate baking chocolate chopped up
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon instant Espresso powder (optional)

Directions

  1. Add all four ingredients to a small saucepan. Place the pan over medium heat and stir continuously until the chocolate melts and the sauce turns glossy and smooth. If you are using the espresso powder it should dissolve.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and allow it to cool for a minute or two, then drizzle over ice cream!
