Slutty Brownies - From Scratch Recipe

By JulieVR

Yes, this is me hopping on the food trend bandwagon, baking up a batch of chocolate chip cookie dough topped with Oreos and brownie batter, cheekily named Slutty Brownies. (How could I not, especially with Valentine’s Day coming up?) But most of the slutty brownie recipes I’ve come across call for cookie and brownie mixes, or tubes of dough, and there’s no reason not to make them from scratch. After all, if I’m going to have chocolate chip cookies and brownies baked into one bite, I want them to be the real thing. When it comes to cookies and brownies, nothing beats homemade!

Yes, I used Oreo knockoffs. You could skip the Oreo layer altogether – mine sort of melted into the brownie layer – and you’d just have double decker chocolate chip cookie brownies. Nothing wrong with that!

Don’t let the ingredient list freak you out – it’s pretty simple to mix up a batch of chocolate chip cookie batter, then brownie batter, and bake them together. You can even use the same bowl.

Slutty Brownies

Ingredients

Chocolate Chip Cookie Batter:

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • about 20 Oreos

Brownie Batter:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips, or 8 oz. semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugars together until pale and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla. Add the flour, baking soda and salt and stir until almost blended; add the chocolate chips and stir just until combined. Press evenly into the bottom of a buttered 9×13-inch pan. Top with a single layer of Oreos.
  3. To make the brownie batter, In a small saucepan, melt the butter and chocolate over low heat. Stir until smooth and if you used a pot, pour into a bowl.
  4. Stir in the sugar, vanilla and eggs; blend well. Add the flour, cocoa and salt and stir until almost combined. Pour over the cookie dough and Oreos. Bake for 40 minutes, until set. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
  5. Makes about 2 dozen.
