Make your own - Tzatziki Sauce

By Aggieskitchen

There are certain things that I eat out at restaurants that I always want to recreate at home. Tzatziki sauce is one of them.

Greek food is one of our favorite foods to eat out and each time we visit our favorite Greek restaurant we go through some serious tzatziki at our table. Well, maybe I go through some serious tzatziki at our table. Whatever. It’s good stuff.

I finally took the plunge and learned how to make this at home the other day. Why oh why have I not made it sooner I have no idea. I’ve been putting it on everything since I’ve made it…these Eggplant Burgers, wraps, salads, as a dip with pita chips… you name it. And it’s so incredibly good for you too. That still amazes me.

Homemade Tzatziki Sauce

Recipe from Aggie’s Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 2 6oz containers of plain non fat Greek style yogurt
  • 1/2 English cucumber, shredded and squeezed dry
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried dill
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced or pressed in garlic press (amount of garlic up to you, I like my tzatziki garlicky, so adjust to your liking)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • good pinches of salt and fresh ground pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and chill. Taste for salt and pepper and adjust if necessary.
  2. Store in airtight container in fridge for 3-5 days. Stir well before serving.
