Bodacious Pirate's Belt Craft

Bodacious Pirate's Belt Craft

Total Time 1 hour Ages school-age

When you're outfitting a character as hip as Jack Sparrow, no ordinary belt will do. In fact, this fashion-blazing pirate donned two for good measure. The first was so long he had to tie it around himself. The second, no doubt his favorite, featured the fanciest of buckles and a strap adorned with zany doodads -- a chicken's foot included! Made from cardboard and paper, and adorned with choice treasures and trinkets, this snazzy belt is the perfect fit for the would-be pirate in your household.

2. Cut strips from the ornate edges of the doily and glue the pieces onto the face of the buckle, as shown, leaving the center strip uncovered. Trim the edges of the doily flush with the buckle.

3. Mix together 2 tablespoons or so of black paint and 1 tablespoon of white glue or Mod Podge. Paint the front and back of the doily-covered buckle. Let the paint dry completely.

4. Brush the raised surfaces of the buckle with gold leaf and again let it dry.
