What you'll need

Apple Filling

  • 10 medium sized Granny Smith (green) Apples, peeled, cored and sliced medium thin
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 3 Tablespoons water

Topping

  • 2 cups quick cooking (one minute) oats
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups lightly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, melted

Helpful Tip:

Are you a fan of nuts? Feel free to add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping mixture.

How to make it

  1. Place apple slices in a large bowl.  In a separate bowl, combine cup of sugar, Tablespoon of flour, cinnamon and cloves, and toss with apples until well coated. Spray the inside of your slow cooker with nonstick spray, then spread apples inside and sprinkle water over the top.
  2. In a large bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Pour melted butter over mixture and combine thoroughly until crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apple mixture.
  3. Cover and cook on low until apples are tender, about 2 hours. Remove lid and cook for another hour to let the topping become crunchy.
