roses and ivy bouquet Cake Recipe

This Great Cake Contest entry was submitted by billielittle from mattoon, Illinois: I made these for a friend of mine. I added ivy to the cupcake bouquet to give it the finishing touch.

What you'll need

  • one box cake mix
  • water, oil, eggs
  • icing
  • purple food coloring paste'
  • ivy
  • block of floral foam
  • long toothpicks or lollipop sticks
  • 5 inch clay pot

How to make it

  1. Bake cupcakes per box instructions. cool completely. cut floral foam to fit inside clay pot. should stick an inch or so above the rim of the pot.
  2. Make icing or use store bought. Tint some of the icing purple. Put a large star tip in an icing bag. Stripe the inside of the bag with alternating stripes of white and purple icing. Start in the center of your cupcake and go in a circular motion to the outside of the cupcake. If you twist only your wrist instead of your arm, it will give the icing the illusion of turning in on itself and it will look like rose petals.
  3. Place a toothpick in the center and put a cupcake on it. Then place the other 6 cupcakes around it.
