Dinner is done - well done, that is - with these savory, seasoned beef patties that are perfect for backyard barbecues or indoor grilling. Adding a bit of water to the mixture ensures that they stay moist and flavorful.

What you'll need

  • 1lb lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

Variations:

Oregano Lemon Pork Burgers: Omit mustard, Worcestershire sauce and beef. Add 1 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano, 2 teaspoons grated lemon rind and 1 lb lean ground pork. Cajun Chicken Burgers: Omit mustard, Worcestershire sauce and beef. Add 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley, 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning and 1 lb ground chicken.

How to make it

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, beat egg and water with a fork.
  2. Mix in bread crumbs, onion, mustard, salt, Worcestershire, and pepper.
  3. Mix in beef. Shape into 1/2-inch thick patties.
  4. Place patties on greased grill over medium-high heat; close lid and cook, turning patties once, for about 10 minutes or until no longer pink inside. Place in hamburger buns.
