Souped-up Saucers

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

The best thing about these UFOs: they fly amazingly well. Each of your intergalactic explorers can make his or her own custom-decorated spacecraft in a few easy steps. When the saucers are ready for liftoff, dim the lights and hold a contest to see who can throw his creation, Frisbee style, the farthest.

Materials

  • For each flying saucer, you'll need one 12- or 14-ounce paper bowl and 2 dinner-size paper plates (doubling the plates increases the craft's stability and helps it fly better). Look for standard-weight, slightly glossy plates and bowls.
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided foam tape
  • Glow-in-the-dark stickers
  • Colored or metallic markers

Instructions

Souped-up Saucers - Step 1

1. Create the cockpit door by making 2 straight scissor cuts in the bowl, as shown, about 2 inches apart.

Souped-up Saucers - Step 2

2. With double-sided foam tape, stick together 2 plates, one nesting inside the other, then tape the rim of the bowl to the bottom of the plates.

Souped-up Saucers - Step 3
