Craft: Truffula Plant Pot

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Change this ordinary pot into a plant that means a lot.

Materials

  • Lorax Pot Template
  • Terra-cotta pot
  • Bonsai tree
  • Several sheets of bright colored foam
  • Googly eyes
  • Stapler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Foam double-sided mounting tape

Instructions

Cut out a pair of orange arms (each with hands on either end) that measure about 11" long and 1" thick. Also cut out a beard, nose, and tongue (see Lorax Pot Template). To view the template(.pdf file), you'll need Acrobat Reader. Install Acrobat Reader onto you computer and then use it to open the .pdf files.

Lay one arm directly over the other and tape the hands together by sandwiching mounting tape between each set of hands.

Slip the arm loop (thumbs pointing up) over the pot and then secure them tightly by stapling the inner arms together.

Glue the nose to the top center of the beard and the tongue to the top center of the arms.

Then glue the eyes and beard onto pot.

Fill the pot 1/2 way with potting soil.

Remove the bonsai tree from its original pot and replant it. There should be enough soil to cover the top. Then water.

Variations:

For The Truffula Tree: Cut out flower shape ( see Truffula Pot Template ) and pull up to the top of the pot until it is tight. You can decorate the pot with colored foam. Be creative and have fun.
