Almond and Cream Trifle

Growing up I learned the love of cooking desserts from my aunts. Every time there was a party they had homemade dishes, always so delicious.

This trifle was one of my favorites. I asked for it all the time for my birthdays, the crunchiness contrasting with the creaminess and softness of the lady fingers, you'll get addicted!

Even though it is not the regular looking trifle, the flavor will not disappoint!

What you'll need

  • 1 cup of almonds
  • 12 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 5 yolks
  • 1 14oz can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 1/2 cups of milk
  • 2 packages of lady fingers (around 24)
  • 1/3 cup of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of water

Helpful Tip:

Perfect dessert to make the day before!

How to make it

  1. Beat butter until soft then add the yolks and the sweetened condensed milk. Place the almonds in the blender for a quick blend so you will end up with small pieces and big pieces.
  2. Use a big trifle bowl or several mason jars and start making the trifle. Make layers staring with the lady fingers, dip them in the milk beforehand, make the layer then add some cream and then some almonds. Continue until the top of the container is reached, end with almonds.
  3. Make caramel for the top: Place sugar and water in a pot over medium heat, watch it closely, when the color turns into light caramel take away from the heat and place on top of the trifle while still hot but thick. Let it refrigerate for 24 hours before serving.
