Mini Windsock

Mini Windsock

Total Time Needed: 1-2 Hours

Tether this wee windsock to a chopstick handle, and you can make it fly inside during rainy days.

Materials

  • Card stock
  • Scissors
  • Tissue paper
  • Tacky glue/glue stick
  • Embroidery floss
  • Tape
  • Chopstick

Instructions

1. To make the sock, cut a 2- by 5-inch rectangle and a 4½- by ½-inch strip from card stock.

2. Cut long fringe into one of the long sides of a 4- by 5-inch piece of tissue paper, leaving about ½ inch uncut, as shown.

Mini Windsock step 3

3. Use tacky glue or a glue stick to adhere the uncut border to the edge of the card stock rectangle. Roll and glue the card stock to form a tube.

4. Create a hanger by gluing the ends of the card stock strip inside the top of the tube. Tie a 7-inchlong piece of embroidery floss into a loop around the hanger. Tape the floss loop to the end of a chopstick.

Notes:

For a mini windsock that's better able to withstand the outdoors, use a plastic file folder for the tube and handle and a plastic bag for the fringe. Put it all together with hot glue (an adult's job).
