A favorite treat for a Passover seder, haroset is a sweetened apple dish that represents the mortar the Jewish people used to build the cities of Egypt.
Ingredients
- 3 apples
- 1/3 cup walnuts
- 1/4 cup grape juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 4 apples for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Core the 3 apples (do not peel) and cut them into chunks. Place them with the walnuts, grape juice, cinnamon, and honey into a food processor and pulse until the mixture is coarse. Place the haroset in a bowl, cover and refrigerate.
- For a special touch, serve the haroset in apple bowls. Just before the meal, cut the tops off 4 apples and hollow out the fruit, leaving the walls 1/4 inch thick. Fill each apple bowl and place on your seder table. Makes 4 servings.
