Total Time Needed: Afternoon Or Evening
This freestanding shelf design employs gravity to keep your DVDs, CDs, or even books neat and accessible. Assembled from just three pieces, it makes a great starter project for aspiring young carpenters.
Materials
- 2-foot-long section of (1 by 6) pine board
- Saw
- Drill
- 1 5/8-inch drywall screws
- 100-grit sandpaper
- Primer
- Paint
Instructions
1. Cut the following pieces from the 2-foot pine board:
16-inch shelf
6-inch end
2-inch leg
2. In the shelf, drill six 1/8-inch holes for 1 5/8-inch drywall screws, as shown. Working with the pieces on edge, screw the leg and the end to the shelf.
3. Use sandpaper to slightly round the edges of the wood. Then prime and paint the holder as you like. If you use more than one color, as we did, paint the pieces before you assemble them.
