High Fliers

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Kids will flip for these funky button bouncers.

Materials

  • Plastic container, no lid (ours is 3 1/4 inches tall by 6 inches wide)
  • Stretchy fabric, such as fleece or a piece of an old T-shirt (ours is 8 inches in diameter)
  • Thick rubber band
  • Stickers (optional)
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Scissors
  • 4-hole buttons

Instructions

  1. To make the trampoline: Secure the fabric over the mouth of the container with the rubber band. The fabric should be centered and taut. If you like, decorate the tub with stickers.
  2. To make the acrobats: For each, cut a pipe cleaner into 2 pieces, one 5 inches long, the other 7. Fold the small piece in half and thread the ends through 2 of the holes in the button. Press them flat against the back of the button so they stick down like legs. Bend them to make knees and feet.
  3. Make a head by bending the 7-inch pipe cleaner in half around your thumb and then twisting it off at the neck. Thread the ends through the other 2 buttonholes and press them flat against the back of the button so they stick out like arms.
  4. To play: Bounce the acrobats off the center of the trampoline - they'll flip, fly, and do other tricks.
