Halloween Costumes: Classic Princess

Classic Princess

Total Time Needed: Afternoon Or Evening

Why buy a mass-produced princess costume at the store when you can create a totally unique look for your little girl, using something you already own...that old bridesmaid's dress hiding in your closet! Every woman has one, and it just may be time to up-cycle, not recycle, it into a fantasy princess ball gown. (And, since you're styling the princess yourself, this costume even has potential for tweens and teens who want to feel like a royal but not like a baby.)

Materials

  • Classic bridesmaid dress
  • Tulle in a matching color
  • Inexpensive wig in black, blonde or red, depending on preference
  • Tiara (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the gown down so it's the right length for your princess-to-be. Pin the dress around your daughter's waist and bust and either sew or pin the dress so that it fits her.
  2. Pin the dress around your daughter's waist and chest and either sew or pin the dress so that it fits her properly.
  3. Using a glue gun, add tulle from the bargain bin to create a poofier, more princess-y skirt and sleeves. The royal-to-be might want to add her own details, like rhinestones and ribbons, to personalize the dress.
