Blow Painting

Total Time Needed: 1 Hour

Partygoers will be blown away by this simple abstract painting activity

Materials

  • Watercolor paper
  • Brightly colored india ink

Instructions

Blow Painting - Step 1

Set out 1 piece of watercolor paper per child on a covered table. Using an eyedropper, place a nickel-size drop of brightly colored India ink on the paper and have the child blow it around with a straw.

Once the ink is spread out, add a drop of another ink to the paper and repeat the process.

This activity is limitless: you can use as many colors and drops of ink as each artist wants. We suggest buying ink that has a dropper attached to the lid, such as Design Higgins or Bombay India Inks.

When the painting is finished, let it set for 5 minutes and then hang it to dry.

Variations:

Have the children try wiggling their straw as they blow through it for neat effects.

Or, have the kids put their hands behind their backs as they blow their ink around the paper. It's a challenge to control the straw with no hands!

Place drops of ink in special patterns around the paper or spell the children's names in drops and have them blow it around.
