A Cone-iferous Advent

Total Time Needed: Afternoon Or Evening

Here's a fun new twist on the traditional Advent calendar: a forest full of paper cones that hide tiny treasures.

Materials

  • Templates
  • Green paper
  • Glue stick (see tip below)
  • Clothespin
  • Glue
  • Silver paper
  • Small gifts
  • Tissue paper
  • Homemade coupons
  • Marker

Instructions

Cone-iferous Advent Calendar Christmas Craft Step 1

Download our templates (each is one third of a circle) and cut out cones from green paper (we made trees in three sizes and several shades). Run a glue stick along one straight edge of a paper shape, then roll it into a cone. Clamp the glued edge with a clothespin until the glue dries. Make the other 23 trees.

Cut or punch out 24 (1-inch) paper circles and write the numbers 1 through 24 on them. Glue the circles to the trees. Add a star made of silver paper to the top of the 24th tree.

Wrap small gifts, such as candies, erasers, tiny figures, rubber bracelets, and toy balls in tissue paper, and place them underneath the cones. Or hide homemade coupons for special favors — pizza for dinner, an outing to the playground — instead of the treats.

Tips:

If you're using stiff paper, such as card stock, use double-sided tape instead of glue to secure the cone. Reinforce the inside seam with scotch tape.
