How to Reset a Netgear Range Extender to Factory Default Settings

Netgear has introduced a wide array of WiFi range extenders. The device will then returns to the factory default settings. Doing so will be very useful if your device shows weird symptoms such as network slows down or fail to connect. It’s recommended to reset your device before paying bucks for a new one. In case you face such issues with Netgear Extender Setup, here are the steps to reset it to factory default settings.

1. Find good AC power supply

Power must not be interrupted while resetting your device. This is due to the fact that it can break the installed firmware or corrupt the memory of your device. Therefore, it will not turn on after the reset process. So, it’s suggested you to plug your expender into a non-switched AC socket. Don’t use an extension board to avoid spotty and loose connections.

2. Turn on your Device

Before proceeding further, wait for some time until your device completes booting. Normally, the booting process takes between 20 seconds to 1 minute.

3. Look for the Changed Settings

Save settings that you have changed before New Extender Setup. These settings contain password, network name (SSID), wireless channels, and much more. Given that clears all these settings while factory reset, so note them firstly. There’s need for these settings list after the reset process. In case you have already written them, it will become easy for you to apply them again.

4. Start Resetting Netgear Range Extender

Once you are done with the above steps, start reset process. There are two to do so: using factory reset button and via mywifiext. Select any method depending on your requirements. Both of these methods are briefly described below:

Using the Factory Reset Button

There’s a small button on your extender. You can find it either in a hole or the bottom of your device. Its color can be black, red or silver. Make use of a thin thing or paper clip to press it. It’s recommended to use a flashlight if your device is placed in a dark room.

Given that this button is weak, so it can be easily jammed or broken. Continue to press it until the extender begins resetting.

Once all the LED lights start turn off, it means the resetting process has begun. In this case, there is no need to hold the button any longer. Release it from the clamp of your hand.

Note: If you press the button for too long, it can get damaged. Therefore, keep pressing it as long as your device starts resetting. Moreover, you can also log in via 192.168.1.250.

After that, let the resetting process complete. It can take 4-5 minutes, so stay calm and do not turn off or unplug your device during the process.

As soon as the range extender resets to factory default settings, reapply the customized settings as per your particular needs.

Using Netgear Genie Website

When your extender turns on after booting, connect desktop or laptop to it. Open a web browser on computer and go to mywifiext.com. Log in to the website by following on-screen prompts.

Next, look for factory default reset link on the webpage. Once found, click on it. A pop-up window will appear. All you need to do is just click on yes button. However, if don’t want to reset it, leave the webpage.

Doing so will log you out from the web user interface, restoring the default settings.

Now, you may shift the range expander to a new position where you get poor signals. Or it is all set to ready if you’re selling it to another user. After that, one just needs to select a network that they want to extend.
